I am a proud teacher of a lively and busy 5th grade classroom. I am constantly looking for new, fun, and engaging ways to introduce curriculum to my students. My class is very hardworking and eager to learn. As a school, we are always looking at ways to engage all of our students.
Students in our school community are often under served, over looked, and receive unequal amounts of resources depending on the district funding.
Despite these differences the students come to school every day, ready to learn and try their hardest with what they accomplish.
As a teacher in today's world we are striving to make our classrooms appealing for all students. One of the easiest ways for us teachers to accomplish this is through flexible seating. When I work, I want to be comfortable and sometimes it is not at a desk.
We need new furniture - a rectangular table and comfy floor seats - that will provide the students with a different option besides a hard chair and desk.
Many students also have attention problems, being able to move and change seating can eliminate the behavior issues that may arise. They can pull the chairs together as they are reading and discussing. They can sit on the floor with the smaller table to find comfort.
Again, students spend so much time in the classroom and they need to be comfortable. That may be having a chair that allows them to move, a classroom that they can collaborate in, and even a spot where they can work in peace.
