This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom is loud, energetic, and fast-paced. I teach four band courses and two piano/music theory courses. My students work extremely hard to come together and develop their musical skills, both as soloists and as part of an ensemble.

My school is situated in the middle of a struggling community.

Our population is largely Hispanic, and many of our students are English Language Learners. The students at my school view many of our school organizations as a second family and support system.

My Project

Each item we are requesting has a specific and unique purpose for our band program. We have more percussionists than we have drums, so the practice pads will give them a way to practice their fundamentals and rudiments on something that reacts similarly to a drum. The saxophone neck straps will help support the weight of the instrument comfortably. The music staff dry erase boards will be very beneficial when working on music theory. The tuba mouthpiece will improve the tone quality for our tuba players.

We are lucky enough to have a rapidly growing band program in spite of constantly increasing budget cuts.

In order to accommodate this growth, we need more materials and accessories for our instruments to keep the program running smoothly.
