My Students
My students are extremely passionate about learning and work extremely hard to achieve what typical students can accomplish so easily. They attend school in an inner-city district and are in various self-contained classrooms with a multitude of disabilities. I service students ranging from Developmental Delays, Intellectually Disabled, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Other Health Impairments, Learning Disabilities and more! As you can see the needs truly are immense.
All students receive speech therapy 1-2 times per week, and love coming in small groups and receiving the supports they SO need!
Communication is something we take for granted, but my students experience the hardships of being unable to communicate effectively on a daily basis. Communication truly is the essence of human life.
My Project
Technology brings many learning opportunities to students with challenges and our school is infused with technology, thanks to a grant we received a few years ago. Every student has access to an iPad in our school. This brings many opportunities to my students and they use the iPads for many learning programs targeting literacy and math skills. Several of my students also use iPads with augmentative and alternative communication applications on them to communicate.
I am requesting a variety of accessories for our technology to ensure that my students can benefit from everything the tablets have to offer them.
Some of my students have problems accessing the iPads and would benefit from new cases that are protective and have a sturdy stand. The screen protectors will keep the screen safe from any cracks and the straps will help my students be mobile with their communication devices.
