My Project
All the students in my district were provided with either a laptop or an iPad at the beginning of the COVID closure. And, all of these devices are packed full of great accessibility features that my special needs students could highly benefit from. However, they weren't given the necessary accompanying hardware (i.e. a mouse, a headset, a microphone, a stylus, etc.) to make it possible for them to use these accommodation features within the software nor do their families have the means to purchase these items.
Providing students with a mouse, a headset with a microphone, and/or a stylus will allow them to use accessibility features such as Immersive Reader, Dictation, and Read Aloud.
It will also allow them to work on math problems or learning how to take handwritten notes directly on their device which will prepare them for if they ever need to learn from home again in the future. And having money for the Apple app store and Teacher Pay Teachers will allow me to purchase learning apps for the iPads and online learning resources (such as Boom Cards) for the students to play on their laptops.
