My students need tablets, headphones and pillows to access online programs for reading and math. I want to create a center in my classroom where students can use the kindles to practice those skills.
I teach in a diverse community which includes students who live in subsidized housing. My students are curious, eager, and love to try new things. Being 7 and 8 years old they really enjoy hands on, engaging activities. They are very active. It makes me happy when they come in with stories they have written about how they love school and everyone here. I want them to continue to feel that way as they grow. Every student deserves a wonderful classroom and I try to create that every day. I want them to learn, be engaged, and understand everyone has talents and strengths. Unfortunately, the town has cut funding to the school by incredible amounts for the last three years. I don't want any child to feel shortchanged.
My Project
Please put technology, headphones and pillows into the hands of my students. There are so many wonderful online resources for learning. I would love to create a learning center in my classroom where my students can access them. Some of the online resources we will be able to use include: Front row for Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies, Xtra math for practicing basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts, Tumblebooks for reading along, and Prodigy math. Many of these resources allow students to proceed and practice at their individual levels. This would give my students the chance to explore technology and resources many of them do not have an opportunity to use at home.
