Accessing Quality and Engaging Nonfiction

My students need access to quality, non-fiction text. By having a subscription to Scholastic News, we not only have high quality, engaging text, but we also have text students can take home on a weekly basis.

My Students

With no predominant ethnic group, my students are a delightfully unique and diverse group, many of which are ELS students. With the majority of my students also receiving free or reduced price lunches, stability and consistency are qualities I work hard to establish in my classroom.

As a teacher there's only so much I can do to help support students in their home life, but their life in the classroom is one I can help manage.

My students are as diverse as the community we live within. They are coming from all over the world with all different types of needs. Some needs greater than others.

In the classroom I can do everything in my power to create a streamlined and dependable environment. Creating consistency in my students' world can allow them to feel a sense of success and accomplishment.

My Project

One of the biggest changes in reading for our students over the years was access to a large variety of high quality, engaging texts. As my class has grown to be full of these types of books, I struggle to have an equal amount of nonfiction texts.

With your help and support, these Scholastic News Magazines will not only boost my nonfiction texts, but also give students something exciting to read on a weekly basis.

The best part of this project is the fact that students will also be able to take home a copy, carrying over a joy and love of nonfiction to their homes!
