This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a Life Skills Classroom for students in grades 1st-4th. These students are working on acheiving basic ADL skills (activities of daily living) along with working on gaining early academic skills. We are an bilingual inner city community with socio-economic challenges.

I have a wonderful group of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students.

We are located in a public school which houses K-8th grade. My students' abilities and limitations vary greatly. My students are diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Ceebral Palsy, seizure disorders and global developmental delays. We are working every day on our alphabet and numbers. We love to sing songs and dance!

My Project

Our classroom is one which will thrive with the more technology we are able to use. My students do not have the fine motor abilities to complete many paper and pencil tasks. We do lots of our learning in non-traditional methods. Puzzles are a HUGE part of our curriculum because they allow the students to show their knowledge and understanding of concepts which they otherwise might not be able to express. The Ipad Mini which I am requesting would be another method of allowing the students to express their understanding of a curriculum unit. Due to their limited OT skills, much of their work cannot be paper and pencil tasks. There are so many applications available for the Ipad which will allow my students to access more curriculum than they are currently able to access.

My classroom does not have nearly enough technology for my students.

By having an Ipad Mini in the classroom, my students will be provided with an additional method of learning and a way for them to express their knowledge. I want them to have the same opportunities for success and growth that children in a very wealthy community right next to ours has. The Ipad is a small piece of bridging that gap.
