This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our room is full of energetic, caring third through fifth graders with disabilities. We are students with a variety of disabilities and struggles which include Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism, Mild Intellectual Disability, and Other Health Impairments which includes ADHD and ADD. We love reading, writing, and math. We come from a variety of cultural backgrounds including, Mexican, Caucasian, and African-American. Our families all look different too. Some of us have a mom and dad with siblings, others live on military bases, and others are raised by our grandmas. Although very different we all love school and have lots of energy.
My Project
This year we want to focus on reading, writing, and critical thinking through reading current events and science articles. With these two magazines, we will get magazines at least once a month and because we will get new magazines we will get new topics.
This will prevent boredom in our learning.
It will also allow for current topics to be discussed.
Common Core State Standards want us to read nonfiction texts such as newspaper articles and texts about science topics. We are to use these texts, to critically think about issues in the world but also to learn reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
