Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an AMAZING group of students! My class was developed to meet the needs of students with autism. What that means in the classroom is that we utilize a variety of modalities to teach students functional academics as well as communication. Most of my students are non-verbal and are emerging at accessing language and communication. Since communication is how we, as individuals, share how we feel and express what we want and need, it is vital that I provide a language-rich environment with access to communication.

Some of the ways you might see this in my classroom include utilizing various augmentative and alternative communication modes.

This can be done using visuals/ pictures, or voice output buttons and boards. However, another way is utilizing a technology device such as an iPad to make larger word selections for students, providing immediate voice output.

I would LOVE to offer my students as many opportunities to communicate throughout their day. With this iPad, I will be able to use communication apps that provide students the chance to access their voice! We can use this on the playground, at lunch, and during all parts of our school day.
