This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are incredible young adults in a high school life skills program. They are working hard to develop the functional, academic, and social skills they need to become independent and successful beyond high school. One of the most important skills they need is literacy—specifically, reading nonfiction texts that will help them navigate the real world.
Currently, our classroom library lacks engaging, accessible nonfiction books that reflect their interests and real-life needs.
By providing a selection of high-interest, easy-to-read nonfiction books on topics like budgeting, job skills, independent living, and community resources, I can help my students strengthen their reading comprehension while also preparing for life after high school.
