Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First graders in my room are curious, imaginative, and eager to learn. This is the year they learn to read, and they get to spend their day engaged in exciting projects and learning activities with their friends. These amazing little people are also emerging bilinguals and work hard to learn their grade-level material as they also learn to speak, read, and write all in English! We are in a Title I school where all students in my class receive a free lunch.

To make our learning environment the very best, I need to make sure these 5 and 6 year olds are able to independently access the library and that they have materials at their levels.

Having bookshelves organized by their levels that they can visit and maintain independently gives these kids more time to read and more time to learn. Giving them books that they can read independently develops their fluency. I have some bookshelves and decodable readers, but the bookshelves are falling apart and the books have been well-loved. In addition, I added carpet spots to this order because my amazing classroom rug was destroyed by mice when we had to put it into storage during the pandemic. I am going to get a new rug, but it is not marked with spots for the kids to sit on (which is super important for a space shared by 24 students). Thank you for helping our classroom stay organized and accessible so we can all focus more time on learning!
