My Students
My class is an Extensive Support Needs Self Contained Class. My students have been identified as having Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Down Syndrome, Speech and Language delay. The lessons I typically prepare are mostly modified to their specific learning skill level. I provide them with meaningful connection of their learning activities and high-interest topics that addresses their functional academic skills.
The pandemic has created a huge challenge for my students as they are faced with changes in their routines which in turn affects their social-emotional learning and academic growth.
My students rely greatly on routines and simple instructions from interactive activities.
My Project
As the schools are moving towards in-person learning, students are facing challenges in their routines that affect their social-emotional learning and academic growth.
My students are visual learners and they depend on clear and simple instructions and interactive activities.
Some students are still continuing to learn at home as they feel more safe and comfortable while others are going back to school for in-person learning. This creates challenges in presenting activities like low-quality visual supports, slow processing, or unexpected crash of an open software, which impacts a fun and engaging lesson. This advanced technology will help me prioritize social‑emotional learning alongside accessible academic learning in building my students' emotional skills to help them understand, manage their emotions, and express themselves appropriately.
This project will help my students receive interactive lessons and activities, spontaneously and effectively.
