My students need listening centers covering a range of skills including phonics, letter sounds, word recognition, basic math skills, and number sense.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from families of low socioeconomic status. My school is 100% free breakfast and lunch, as well as supper for our after school students. We also have a pantry that supplies food to our most needy families. We provide for our students before, during, and after school and help families meet their basic needs.
Despite the many challenges they face, my students work hard at school every day.
They come ready and eager to learn. They get excited when they master something new. They have incredible potential to do great.
My students need accessible centers that make learning fun and engaging. Most of my students are beginning readers who are still learning the foundations of reading such as letter sounds, phonics, and sight word recognition. They are often not independent and need help even reading directions. Students can sometimes be reluctant to ask for help for fear of judgement. When they don't need to rely on others for help, they can begin to feel more successful and become motivated to read and learn more on their own.
Listening centers will help them to be independent and take charge of their own learning.
The Listen&Learn Sets allow students to complete various worksheets independently as they listen to instructions on a CD. The sight word talking board allows students to independently practice sight word recognition that is essential in building reading fluency. The Instant Learning sets provide students with manipulatives that makes learning fun and engaging and they cover basic math skills and phonics skills. These materials will make centers in my class fun and appealing but more importantly, they will make learning accessible to all students. It will allow me to differentiate my centers for those struggling students that need an extra push and motivation.
