This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
J.E. Hobbs Elementary School, located at 30 Claiborne Street, Camden, AL 36726, is a designated schoolwide Title I school with 100% of the school’s students eligible for free lunch. J.E. Hobbs serves students in grades PK-6th grade. It has total population of 467 students serving the Camden, Coy, Snow Hill, and Pineapple area, which are located in Wilcox County. Over 98% of our students are African American, and the majority are below poverty level and come from low income families.
However, our students are very motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated to learning.
My Project
This year students have the opportunity to learn from him (virtual instruction) or traditional (face-to-face instruction) due to COVID-19. However, I would like my students to still have full access to online resources to improve their reading instruction the same as if they were in the classroom. Scholastic News provides expository text on current events, and they even have online videos and activities linked to their stories. Teacher Pay Teachers provides additional digital resources that can be shared through Google Classroom or Schoology. My students will appreciate these valuable resources, and they will understand that virtual doesn't mean impossible.
