This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every student is incredibly special. My students have gone through hardships that some people cannot even imagine. However, they still come to school everyday with the brightest smiles and desire to learn. COVID-19 has had a negative impact on their academic and social emotional learning over the last two years. Their last regular school year was kindergarten. When they were in first grade, they were sent home for spring break and never came back due to Covid. At the time, our district did not have the resources to get computers and Internet to our families until the following school year. In second grade, they were completely on a distance learning model. However, our parents tried their best but were not always able to help meaningful learning happen at home. Thankfully, they are back in the classroom with us now, but we truly see the impact that this had on their development.
The materials for my project will be used to help them access their curriculum online.
While I am teaching small groups, other students can be using our online programs to complete personalized lessons that will help fill in their learning gaps. However, right now, we are not equipped with quality headphones for each student. We make it work with what we have but it is a very stressful situation whenever we need to have each student with a headset for testing because there just is not enough. The storage cart will be vital in keeping these headphones in excellent condition for many students to use throughout the next several years. The 2 flex seating bundles will allow for students to work in a more comfortable position which is very important for our students that need constant movement.
