Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Having access to a well-stocked classroom library is essential for high school students because it encourages independent reading, fosters a love for literature, and provides diverse perspectives that enrich their education. A classroom library offers immediate access to books, eliminating barriers such as cost or limited availability at home. Since these are problems that are common in low-income areas, like the area I teach in, it is essential to provide these resources to ensure educational equity. Furthermore, exposure to a variety of texts—classics, contemporary works, and diverse voices—helps students develop critical thinking skills, cultural awareness, and empathy. Additionally, frequent access to literature strengthens reading comprehension and writing abilities, which are crucial for success in high school and beyond. By having books readily available, students are more likely to explore new ideas, engage with complex themes, and develop a lifelong appreciation for reading. Your help with funding this project will grant access to my students helping them improve their literacy levels and thus positively impacting their future.
