Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class are engaged and enthusiastic emerging readers. More than half of our class members are English Language Learners. While there were a variety of traumas and loss of access to quality education during the past two years, these students have not let that slow them down. They love to share their new reading skills with each other, and I believe they will be over the moon to have new high-interest books in our classroom library.
My Project
Our class will be spending the last three months of the school year learning about birds. They will be growing comprehension, critical thinking, and research skills during our birds module. The class set of Birds Discover More and Little Kids First Big Book of Birds will help them to research independently with grade-level appropriate and reliable texts. This is also a class set that I will be able to use with junior bird scholars year after year.
Modern, high-interest phonics readers will capture students attention and engage them in their independent reading during class.
