it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I am one of the English teachers teaching 9th Grade ELA in an inner city high school. I teach about 45 students, and I love them dearly. They each have such unique personalities and humors that they bring into my classroom. Many of them are quiet but with the biggest hearts you'll ever meet. The ones that aren't quiet you can hear coming down the hall from a mile away. Even in a pandemic, I count myself as one of the lucky teachers that got a good portion of students to attend their classes everyday. They kept me involved in their lives, and they were always so polite whenever they join or leave my classroom for the day. I even still have my previous year's students popping in to say hi once a week!

My Project
There are designated sections in our English classes where students need to pick an independent reading book and read for a certain length of time. Many of my students are more engaged in the act of reading when they are books that they enjoy. Some of them have been having difficulties finding a new book to enjoy because I teach a lot of students, and by the time my last period rolls in to look at new books, my library is pretty picked over. Plus, now that it's November, I now know a lot more about my students interests!
Giving my students two personalized books for them to read will greatly improve their spirits and their love of reading.
I have hand selected (and conferenced) with students over the types of books they would enjoy reading and have ordered them! I have picked two books per student, and since I have so many I've had to split this project into two in order to provide each of my students their two individual books. Hopefully with books hand chosen FOR my students, they will be more engaged during our reading time and will begin to foster a love of reading books.
