Access to Books Staring Kids With Disabilities

Help me give my students books with examples of kids with disabilities and flexible seating while they read.

My Project

Our class is is made of of students with different needs including some students with disabilities. We have students who are deaf or hard of hearing, students on the autism spectrum, and students who have a variety of learning challenges.

When students are able to see themselves represented in a book, they can connect more to what they are reading, and feel more engaged in school overall.

Children's books featuring main characters with disabilities are rare. Many of the titles here are written by authors with the disabilities their characters have. Imagine students seeing themselves as authors!

Students will also benefit from flexible seating through wobble stools which can help keep them focused and engaged.
