My Project
The materials I request to be donated will help public school special education students in a 5th-grade inclusion and resource setting. COVID-19 has increased learning gaps in all our students, and students with special needs who already struggle to keep up are continuing to stumble and fall further behind. Special education teachers often have to purchase instructional resources independently to support their diverse learners. I am requesting resources that will supplement grade-level curriculum to target student-specific needs in foundational skills for reading and writing.
The resources I request will provide my special education students access to materials to support their academic needs and further enhance their independent participation with their typical peers.
The bouncy bands will be offered to special education and general education students in the inclusion setting to support all students who need a physical outlet to reduce anxiety or hyperactivity. The discrete-looking magnifiers and document camera will help specific visually-impaired students enhance text in a non-intrusive way. The digital text reader will help several students with difficulties expressing themselves in written format be more independent during written tasks.
These items will help me continue to support my students to thrive and build confidence and independence during this difficult time.
