This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Fourth and fifth grade can be tough, but for newcomers that are learning how to adapt to a new country, these challenges can be even more pronounced. These students face language barriers, knowledge gaps, and low self-confidence because they can't keep up with their peers. Luckily, our district this year has just upgraded our Microsoft Suite to include the program Reading Progress through Microsoft's Learning Accelerators to all our students.

By leveraging the power of a Windows computer with Microsoft Teams, I will be able to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that accelerates English acquisition for our fourth and fifth grade ELLs.

The newly integrated Reading Progress resource in Microsoft Teams Learning Accelerators allows me to assign reading assignments effortlessly and get insights into the overall class performance and individual student reading performance. Microsoft Teams allows students to organize tasks and assignments easily and effectively all while facilitating communication with their teacher. In addition, students have access to Copilot which will allow the to use AI for corrective feedback and personalized learning through Office365. Adding a Windows laptop with an easy interface will allow me create a station where students can log in with their Microsoft profile and access a library of diverse reading materials with eye-catching illustrations all while providing an engaging reading experience. Funding this project will allow me to cultivate cultural understanding to help ELLs with speaking, listening, reading and writing English.
