My Students

Our school is a small urban middle school. Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. Fortunately, our school is a place where the staff and students work hard to create a positive, mutually supportive learning environment. In a survey last year, a great amount of respondents reported that they felt other students respected their voice, and even greater amount reported that teachers respected them. The core value of my classroom is Respect!

Though some of my seventh grade students struggle with poverty, language barriers, disabilities, and adolescent attention spans, they are intellectual, creative, and courageous.

They complete activities and investigative tasks, they carry on academic discussions, and solve complex and multistep problems.

My Project

The use of a document reader is a daily routine in every classroom. In my virtual classroom, I use it basically for everything. I use it to model how to solve problems, take notes, how to graph, draw shapes. I use it to read from the textbook, and when we use math manipulatives. There are endless uses for such an important technology.

Now that everything is online, I rely heavily on a document reader to show my students how to do things, from how to balance an equation, to how to graph.

Students love to bring their work up and have it display on the screen. They feel proud and important when everybody can see their work.
