This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students have not been exposed to the academic vocabulary necessary to achieve academic excellence. Their limited vocabulary creates many obstacles that make their educational journey more difficult and less enjoyable.

My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Many of their communities suffer from high-poverty and disturbing crime rates. My students and their families face daily struggles; yet, they push through the harsh realities of life and wake up every morning, hop on the bus, and enter my classroom. The majority of the students in my class read below grade level and have a difficult time with written English language conventions. Many of the learning environments in their communities have lacked the funds and resources needed to provide a quality education.

My Project

I will create educational opportunities in my classroom that will expose my students to academic vocabulary. With a dictionary by their side, my students will not be afraid to tackle novels and difficult texts. Together, as a class, we will eliminate the barriers that get in the way of achieving academic success.

This project will help my students build the educational foundation needed not only to succeed in high school, but also required to compete in the sphere of higher education.

I want my students to fill the seats in university classrooms and reach academic excellence.
