My students need binders and dividers to develop their organizational success. They need these materials to ensure their success in their new study skills class.
The students that attend my school come from a variety of backgrounds and several countries. The students desire success, but have not been successful with school due to the severely low reading levels. Many of our kiddos will be the first to graduate high school in their family. Our reading diagnostic testing last year showed that we have the lowest reading levels within our district of schools. We also had the lowest rate of freshmen passing all of their classes. As a result, I am facilitating growth with reading and success in all classes by teaching organization. My students do not have the funds to purchase their own school supplies that will help them be successful.
Last year alone, we had 80 students that were homeless.
According to Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, students have to have their basic needs met in order to succeed. If students are worried about where they will sleep or get their next meal, they definitely won't be able to purchase the supplies they need in order to stay organized, meet deadlines, and achieve at high levels.
My Project
These 3 ring binders and dividers will allow my students the ability to stay organized and turn in their work timely. They will learn stellar organizational habits their first year in high school and continue using them to develop a high school portfolio of work. This project will help kiddos learn the skills they need to develop their reading, writing, organization, and personal management skills. This investment will ensure more children will pass their classes as freshmen, which will deliver a higher graduation percentage based on data. The idea is that the kiddos will be able to shine with these materials. The use of these materials and organization will be assessed weekly to ensure the student is utilizing the materials. It is shown that students who pass all of their classes their freshman year, are less likely to drop out of high school.
