I am asking for a variety of items to cover gaps in my classroom. I hope to add resources to my calm corner, improve my social skills instruction, give additional opportunities to practice academic skills, recognize students' birthdays and provide incentives that the students will work for.
My students are 4th-6th graders who are almost entirely low-income, have had trauma in their lives and have disabilities.
The cards seem to be stacked against these kiddos, but they work so hard to progress and improve their skills. I hope that they see how proud I am of the work that they are doing, and that they are rewarded for their dedication to learning.
First, I plan on using the Teachers Pay Teachers cards to get additional academic content for my students to work on their instructional levels. I also have selected some high-interest decodable books for a more motivating reading experience.
I also am hoping to get new tools for my calm corner and social skills. On a prior Donor's Choose, I was fortunate to get a bubble lamp. The students loved having it in my classroom, however when my school closed, the lamp was broken in the move. I am getting more curricula for my social skills lessons, as well as books that I hope are engaging.
Finally, I am asking for more items for my class store. I frequently purchase these rewards out of my own pocket, most often at dollar stores. Having high-interest items (Takis, Funko Pops, etc) will be fantastic surprises for my students.
