I have found that my students need more phonics instruction than my current curriculum provides and multi-sensory learning is an excellent way for students with disabilities to learn to read. The books that I have chosen are highly recommended by Orton-Gillingham reading specialists. Since my students reading levels vary from kindergarten to about fourth grade, I need a wide range of materials. In addition to phonics curriculum, I also plan on getting a printer/scanner so that I can scan and make copies of behavior trackers each day, as well as print in color. The ability to print in color allows me to utilize materials from other teachers who utilize multi-sensory phonics (such as Teachers Pay Teachers resources). I will also be able to print student data in color and use color in behavior supports (daily schedule, break cards, etc.).
