This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am currently a 10th grade English teacher with a total of 160 students. My students are a group of budding intellectuals. They have the capacity and determination to learn; however, we are at a limited resource institution. Students are not equipped to acquire all of the necessary tools to be successful in the classroom. My students deserve the proper resources in order to be successful and college & career ready upon graduation. I am dedicated to providing the best formal education for all of my students.

My Project

As we are exiting the 2017-18 academic year, we are in early preparation for the upcoming school year. We are implementing a policy where every student is required to have an academic binder that holds academic content for all eight periods. We are redirecting the program to reclaim the idea that athletes are students first. We need our athletes to step up as leaders in our school because they are a major component of school spirit and students naturally emulate them. Now, I will be moving up to teach English 11 next year and that is our school’s accountability grade. I want to make sure those students are given the same opportunities to represent themselves and our school.
