This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I've had the amazing opportunity to welcome a kind, diverse group of scholars to my classroom, and for many of them, this is their first experience with the school environment at all.
My school serves some of the highest need students in our area, and I want to set a foundation for academic success.
My students bring a variety of languages, cultures, and backgrounds to our classroom, and many of them are still learning how to be ready to learn at school. However, each and every child has such a great potential to learn, and we have high academic expectations for our kindergarten scholars!
My Project
My scholars are becoming better readers every day! They are putting in the hard work at my guided reading table every day to earn the progress we are making toward our reading level goals. To ensure each of my students will finish kindergarten on grade level or above, our goal is for each student to end this year reading a level D book or higher. The good news is, we are almost there!
To ensure that my scholars are reaching their highest potential, I want engaging, high level books to use during guided reading time in the classroom.
In addition to level E books to use during guided reading, we are also hoping for level D and E books to take home for reading practice. The more these scholars are reading these high level books, the more they will achieve! These special students are eager to learn, and I am eager to provide all the opportunities I can provide for them. I'm excited to see how high they can fly this year!
