My students need to have visual, tactile, and kinesthetic relevant language building materials and opportunities in our classroom ABC / Phonics literacy center.
We live in a very rural country area and almost all of these students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
All of these students attend a VPI At Risk PreK program in a Title 1 school.
My students are all 4 years old. Many receive special education services for developmental delays and speech and language, and vocabulary services. Many come to preschool with very limited vocabulary and language skills. Many of our families come from low-income, one parent homes, and English as a Second Language Learners. Many even reside with their grandparent or foster family and are considered homeless.
My students are eager and curious about the world around them. I want to make sure they build and develop the language and vocabulary skills they need in order to become lifelong successful learners.
My Project
I am requesting a storage cart, storage tubs as well as the Little Red Tool Box: Alphabet Letters & Pictures Super Set, Hear Myself Alphabet Sound Phone Centers, Alphabet Soup Sorters, English Language Development Vocabulary Center, and Float & Find Alphabet Bubbles. If this project gets funded it will provide everything needed to use in our daily language center.
With these resources, my kids will be able to see and feel the pictures in the soup cans and Big Red Box of pictures and letters to say, name, and, match their way to learning.
The storage tubs will be used to organize and store the materials for easy use. These materials will build lots of needed vocabulary and language in our language center! ABC's for our Language.
My students who are homeless have limited resources and support from home to help develop language and vocabulary. These ABC language developing materials would especially benefit homeless children who come from environments where their pre-reading and language skills cannot be supported or stimulated. This would allow them to develop letter recognition. letter sounds. and phonemic awareness through both individual and group play.
