My third graders love to read! I am a third grade language arts teacher in a small, rural school district. We are located Pennsylvania.
My students enjoy reading the many fiction books in our classroom. Recently I have been doing some research on nonfiction in the lower grades. Research indicates that young children should begin working on nonfiction skills much earlier than previously thought. I have many books in my classroom but not many high interest nonfiction books. Also, I want to ensure that I have nonfiction books that are at a reading level that my third graders can read and enjoy independently.
I would like to "flood" my classroom with nonfiction alphabet books. There are so many wonderful choices available. I selected books that I think would be of high interest to my boys and girls. The topics vary from sports and animals to weather and ballet! I want to hook the kids on reading nonfiction!
Not only do I want my students to enjoy reading, but I want them to be successful, avid readers. Your donation will help to ensure that they become successful readers of nonfiction in third grade and beyond!
