ABCD-Aerobics, Brain, Cardio, and Drumming!

Help me give my students 30 cardio drumming kits (a kit includes a bucket, a stability ball, and two drum sticks) that will provide them with a whole brain and whole body musical/aerobic workout.

My Project

My students have, varying abilities, are creative, energetic, are eager to try new things and love coming to music class! Some of my students' favorite things to do in music are to dance and play the instruments. Having cardio drumming kits in my music classroom will give my students the opportunity to do both at the same time!

Cardio drumming integrates physical, social, emotional, and health with rhythm and movement based-activities.

Studies have shown that cardio drumming activates both hemispheres of the brain; uses synchronous brain activity (helping improve coordination); integrates many muscles in the body with high-intensity drum movements; enhances the sensory-motor system; and improves self-awareness, impulse control, mood, and one's ability to focus. It is an exciting way to get my students engaged, practicing making music with each other, and moving. This project will be especially great for my students who have higher sensory needs.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be able to use the cardio drumming kits in the music classroom. A cardio drumming kit includes a stability ball, two drumsticks, and a bucket. Each student will get to use their own kit while in music class. The kits will be shared amongst all of the grade levels in the school. They will perform a variety of drumming workout routines to different styles of music and songs, all while learning about the seven different elements of music (rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo, texture, timbre, and pitch). All of my students will benefit greatly from this project.
