My Project

Hi! I am a first year teacher and I am looking to furnish my classroom in a way that is inclusive for all learners and is student centered. An alphabet rug is a must have in every Kindergarten classroom! It provides students with their own space during morning meetings and group work time. I hope to provide my students with opportunities to collaborate and socialize, strengthening their social and emotional development and skills. An alphabet rug is student centered and promotes learning through visuals and print recognition. Songs, games, story time, and movements on the rug have been a core memory for my students in my preservice teaching, and for myself as a young child. For many of my students, this will be their first time in a classroom setting so I want to provide positive and comfortable structure and make them feel welcome in a space that will become their own.
