Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are young Kindergartners with a thirst for knowledge. They love to explore and observe the world around them. They love to play all sorts of games. They enjoy building things and making all sorts of creations. And even though they are just learning to read, they love books!

My students are budding scientists, writers, mathematicians, artists, peacemakers, and so much more!

They love a challenge, and they especially enjoy working with others to tackle these challenges. The majority of the students at my school are Latinos. Most of their parents are immigrants from Mexico and Central America. There is a small but growing number of African American, Asian, and bi-racial students at my school. My classroom exemplifies this diversity.

My Project

My students will have a blast learning their ABCs with the Alphabet Rockets. My students love anything rocket related. This game has a rocket base with the upper and lower case letters. Students must find the corresponding picture pieces to build this 3 piece rocket. This will be a fun way for them to learn letter names and letter sounds. As they build their rockets again and again - because that's what kindergarten students do - they will learn as they play. The Alphabet Learning Locks will help students match upper and lower case letters. Kids love playing with locks and keys. I know this will be a favorite activity. The Alphabet Zoo will allow my students to play with small toy animals - which we all know kids love - while they learn the beginning sounds and letter names of each animal. In addition to learning their letter names and sounds, they will also begin to put those sounds together to create simple words. The CVC Word Work Center will be a fun way to help my students begin to build words. The Giant Alphabet Beads will be a popular and enjoyable way for them to play with letters. They can practice building their names, friends' names, and so much more.

When learning is engaging, students will want to participate.

These ABC activities will help my students will the very important task of learning their letter names and letter sounds. This will lay the foundation for reading, writing, and academic success. Because the majority of my students are English Learners, it is crucial that they get off to a good start with phonemic awareness in Kindergarten.
