My students need new hands-on, engaging materials to learn the alphabet, sounds, their names, and beginning words. These materials will be used in a variety of cooperative centers including language, water, and art...while focusing on literacy.
I teach twenty pre-kindergarten students, most of them age 4. They come from a variety of backgrounds. They love to pretend, and they love to work with their friends.
My students come into the classroom every day, eager to learn and eager to experience new things.
School is their safe and happy place.
The major focus in our classroom is on literacy. It is woven through everything we do. We try to lay the foundation for these children to be successful readers and writers and to enjoy these areas.
My Project
My students need fun ways to practice their literacy skills. I have students who are on a variety of levels. Some are learning to identify letters, some are working on letter sounds, some are able to write and read basic words like names and "Mom."
These materials will help me reach their needs in fun ways.
For example, The ABC Easy Grip Sponge Stampers will be used in the art center so that students can stamp letters they know, stamp their names, and stamp beginning words when they are ready. The ABC Float and Find Bubbles will be used in the outdoor center in the water table for a cooperative letter-picture matching game. The ABC Find the Letter Activity Center, the ABC Mystery Box, and the ABC Complete the Picture Letter Match game will be used in cooperative learning groups in the literacy center.
With these fresh new hands-on activities, my students will love literacy and learning. They will be able to work on the levels they are on and will be able to progress when they are ready. All of these materials reach a variety of developmental levels and "grow" with the students' changing needs. An added bonus is that while they are learning and building their literacy skills, they are also working with and learning from their peers.
