This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our five-year old, public learning center school is located in a poverty stricken area of Kansas City. It is a learning center that caters to over 800 prekindergarten and kindergarten students, with free breakfast and lunch. Dinner is also provided for students in our after-school program.
My 4 or 5 year old prekindergarten students come to us with no previous school experience and are so curious about learning.
They learn to be responsible, safe, and respectful students in our school. Their curiosity and enthusiasm to learn is so contagious!
My Project
This program provides resources that are developmentally appropriate, using a multisensory approach. They address different learning styles and invite active student participation with purposeful discovery and play.
The A-B-C Touch and Flip Cards and Capital Letter Cards teach students to identify letters by touch and manipulation.
The Double Line Writer provides straight lines on the white board for correct formation of letters. The 1-2-3 Touch and Flip Cards and Tag Bags stimulate the senses and encourage learning of math, in a fun way. Tag Bags teaches color identification, reading numerals, counting and sorting.
I am excited to supplement my teaching with these activities and see improvement in my students as I prepare them for kindergarten.
