This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach Head Start in a low income area. My 31 students range from ages 3 to 5 years old. These years are very critical for developmental areas including physical, social, cognitive, and language. Students at this age become "sponges" and really begin to blossom.
Families who live in poverty often have to make hard decisions on where to spend their money. They feel that it's more necessary to keep the lights in the house on than to buy their children educational materials. Being a teacher on a tight budget, it is hard to keep my family eating as well as providing my students with educational materials.
This proposal is asking for materials that will help students learn their letters. Each of the different materials that I am asking for are different ways of helping students learn letters. Recognizing letters is the first step to reading!
With your help, my students will be able to learn letters to help them read. You could be the one to make this proposal happen!
