An amazing ABA classroom full of various abilities, levels, and goals. My students come from diverse backgrounds and each has individual goals to help them become successful, which is why we are in need of a few different options. By having different options, I can almost guarantee that my students will thrive in the environment that we strive to keep consistent.
My ABA classroom is full of task cards, discrete trials, prompting, fading, rewards, and so on; however, we still strive for further improvement, management, and reduction of certain behaviors.
With the need for reduction of behaviors comes the task of deciding which outlet a student needs (social, emotional, sensory, etc.).
While my classroom has an amazing support system (three wonderful para's), we need tools and gadgets to help reach our goals.
My Project
ABA is a unique teaching style that encourages students to thrive within a high demand setting and each item within our project will help encourage positive behaviors by allowing students to remain focused or become refocused as well as alleviate stresses a typical day can cause. To help alleviate anxiety/stress while maintaining focus, students can utilize the pop up tent, squeeze toys, timers, fidgets, PlayDoh, bubble lightening, and body sacks.
Students need an outlet to express their anxiety and stress within a safe and calm environment.
When given the proper tools and strategies (fidgets, pop up sensory regulation tent, squeeze and pull toys, feeling identification, etc.), students have a better chance of being successful.
Our ABA students have been through a lot in the last couple of months, as have all students, but these particular (amazing) students need consistency and I am hoping they walk into the classroom and see all of the great items to help support them and learn to love school again.
