My Project
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and it includes all the ways a person communicates aside from talking. For example, a student can use a communication app on an iPad in order to communicate, so an iPad can serve as a great high-tech AAC device. I plan to use the iPad as an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device for my students who have trouble communicating verbally. This will give them a way to express their wants and needs, participate in the classroom, and interact with peers. Every child should be given the resources they need to be successful in school, and this resource will help improve many students’ speech and language skills. I request individual AAC devices for my students through the school district, but it can take a very long time for the students to receive their own devices. The iPad will give them a means to communicate in the meantime. I plan to use the stylus to track data during my sessions to monitor my students’ progress.
