Instruments build a music classroom, and the addition of simple percussion instruments will add much needed sound to our school.
My students are hard working, curious kids who truly thirst for the world outside.
Coming from a small town, everybody knows everybody else, and the sense of community rivals any that I have ever seen. These kids want to experience life and sounds and memories bigger than themselves. There is so much pride in the history of our little and aged school, and in the concept of "Giving Your Best, and Nothing Less", as our school will always state. What binds us is our community and our long tenured traditions.
My Project
Students will use our new percussion instruments close to every single day they are in music class. The majority of music curricula can be accomplished with accompaniment instruments. This includes understanding form study (call and response, ABA, free), understanding note values from whole notes all the way down to sixteenths and beyond, and understanding the role of solo versus group or prominent part versus accompaniment.
These instruments will serve as voice, piano, wind instrument or any other added sound in the sense that now the students will be able to supplement reading about and hearing the music with working tools with which to perform.
Adding more rhythm band instruments will make a great difference in our school's music classroom, because it is one of the last great needs that inhibit the students to truly perform at their best.
Because our materials are no longer usable, the students have difficulties playing. Each instrument I have asked for will replace a set that is no longer sufficiently fit for the students. These instruments will provide an immediate and great impact the instant they arrive.
