Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are passionate and know the true meaning of grit. A hundred percent of the students entering my classroom have experienced trauma of some form. They come from diverse backgrounds, many experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Despite all of this, my students have passion and grit.

They go to school when it's easier to stay home. They participate in Future Business Leaders of America clubs, compete against high school students, and win. When given the right opportunities and support, there's nothing they can't do.

My Project

My students need to improve their writing skills in order to be successful in high school and their future careers. Having access to large easel pads and stands will allow students to practice writing strategies with groups, improve their writing with peer feedback, refer to anchor charts around the room with specific strategies, and have constant instant access to the tools necessary for improving their writing. Having access to an abundance of pencils and erasers ensures that all students--regardless of socioeconomic status--have the tools necessary to practice these skills. By providing the kids with access to pencils and peer feedback, students are being offered opportunity.
