My students are from a low social economy background. There are five students who live with mom and dad, seven with mom only and the others live with grandparents. I have twenty two students and only three students have computers with on-line access, and only seven have computers in their homes.
I have fourteen boys and eight girls.
They are a great group of enthusiastic third graders. They all love the opportunity to work with computers, but I only have four and most of the time only three are working. I am required to get 180 minutes per week for each child on these four computers. This is a public elementary school with the make-up of 90% African Americans and 10% other. We have 98% of free and 2% of reduced breakfasts and lunches.
My group of students' SAT 10 results from Second Grade are: Two students are on grade level, five students need Strategic-Additional intervention, and fifteen students need Intensive-Substantial intervention. The students will have the lab top to work with. Students will work on many skills from phonic to fluency in Language Arts. In math, students will work addition skills through algebra skills. Students will use Head sprout and Stanford Math programs. These programs allow students to work at their levels and build on their foundations. These programs give students immediately feedback. Students will begin to experience success in all areas. They will also be able to conduct research in science and social studies.
The students will develop the skills needed for a strong foundation to build on.
They will show growth in all areas narrowing the achievement gap, when comparing their TCAP with their SAT 10. With the use of the extra computer, more students will be served. The programs help students to stay focus, provide examples, and generate self motivation about learning.
