Our high school is an urban school in Staten Island, New York that educates a diverse population. Many of my students face socioeconomic, racial and financial problems. Many of the students live at or near the poverty line and one third of the population is special education.
"The Warrior" is mascot at our school.
Once you step foot into the building, you can understand how meaningful this mascot truly is. Despite all these issues that our students face, the spirit of the school is to keep going and to warrior through problems that they may face.
Not only do the students fight through their own problems, but they also have a spirit of activism. The students at our school are one of the most welcoming and accepting student bodies in America.
My Project
Working in a low-income school, my students face many obstacles. Many of them do not have the resources that many students in America take for granted. We intend to use the tablets in many different ways. Frist, we plan to bring the global library into the classroom with the use of NYPL simply E. We will give students a choice of what they want to read independently. We hope to foster a true love of reading through student choice.
As teachers, we hope to prepare our students for college and by using the tablet, we are allowing our students to do independent research on topics that matter to them.
Lastly, we will use the tablets for Google classroom.
