My Project

Our classroom is a 6th-8th grade special day class in which we explore all subjects, including social justice, world geography, US history, and current events. We need an up-to-date world map, which makes it easy to teach about countries and their relative locations to one another. We read literature, such as The Circuit by Francisco Jimenez, about migrant workers in the 1950s and '60s in California, and learn about Dolores Huerta, Ceasar Chavez, and the fight to unionize farm workers. We read Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga which is about a young woman in Syria against the backdrop of war. We need a map to show the travels of some of the characters in the books we read and in the current events we discuss.

Your donation will help approximately 10 students each year in an extensive support class understand basic concepts of literature, social justice, American history and world events.
