Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a place for young mathematicians and curious scientists to have fun while they explore 2nd grade content. I design my lessons to engage students in hands-on activities and small-group work where they can share ideas and feel successful.
My students are a group of excited 7 and 8 years old children that thrive off of knowledge and hands-on learning.
They attend an inner city public school in the Bronx and are grateful for the opportunities that are provided for them daily. Most of my students will begin the school year below grade level, but they are all eager to learn and challenge themselves, and even have a little fun along the way. My students are very curious, and are always questioning the world around them. They want to show teachers and their parents what they're capable of. They want to know that someone is proud of them. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time and resources to make this happen. I have the time but lack the learning aids that will help reach all of my students' individual learning needs.
My Project
The students will be thrilled to receive these materials and will be rushing to get their hands on them first. With these materials, students will be able to make real world connections to what they are learning as well as prepare them for state tests next year. I have no doubt that these resources will help boost their interest and morale as well as motivate them to succeed.
I am requesting literacy games and math games as well as books to help make the content fun and hands-on. I am also asking for small group manipulatives and tools that will aid in tracking their progress and make some concepts more clear.
Having this project funded will make a huge difference in how my students feel about learning overall.
If funded, I will make sure that each child knows how they can reach their potential with the help of these literacy and math resources. They will be given a chance to appreciate the kindness of strangers that want to help make a difference in education!
