This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Think about your first bike or your first day of school! Now write those thoughts down on paper. Many students are not able to write what they think or feel inside.
My students are young readers and writers that are in an urban school.
We are Title I and most are from single family homes. They are very bright and have great potential but, they have a lot of environmental obstacles. My students are eager to learn and could go far with the right encouragement.
My Project
To our wonderful donors, I believe writing is an essential part of learning. I want my students to understand the qualities of good writing. Through these resources my students will be able to focus more on writing during our learning areas. The students will be able to check their own writing, as well as, peer-edit each other. These different writing resources will be beneficial by allowing the students hands-on experiences with word work and sentence structure. I can see them now taking ownership of their work and helping others do the same!
First graders need to develop a sense of ownership and this can be established through writing.
My goal is for my students to develop and maintain a love for writing and a feeling of independence. Through these much needed resources my students will become more thoughtful about their work and work harder at producing written work that is of great quality.
