Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With little money being spend on science equipment and science education in primary grades, our student are being deprived of inquiry based education and the development of critical thinking skills.
I have 23 kindergartners that are full of curiosity and wonder.
All of my students are of low income, African-American or of immigrant descent. Many of our families are experiencing economic hardships where the children become victims of an economic circumstance. I want to provide them with a rich educational experiences that will open them to the scientific world.
My Project
I want to provide my little students with a rich educational opportunities in science through inquiry based experiences that will open them to the scientific world. A Lunar Projection Camera can transform an ordinary lesson into a focused, fascinating, and an interactive lessons. Since I have so many little students, I am forced to teach whole class vs small groups, I can easily get their attention by projecting a live organism that we will study and point out to everyone the part or parts that I am talking about. Also, students can use the camera projection to share their findings with the entire class. Camera readers are a wonderful classroom tool that involved all of the students and grabs their attention, as well as increases participation. I am also asking for an electrical pencil sharpener, so my students are able to sharpen their own big, fat pencils that are appropriate for a 4-5 year old hands.
Through the use of an interactive projection camera, I can get my students excited about the world around them through the means of scientific inquiry.
My students' awareness about the world is so limited either by their age or their parents' economic circumstance. I want to expand their understanding about the world around them.
