Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students persevere, do their best, and take pride in their education. Some from low income, first-generation proud immigrant families. They are dedicated to their education because they know and appreciate the daily sacrifices their parents make for them. To them, school is exciting, something to celebrate, and they are grateful to come every day.
I am hoping to update our classroom library to provide my students with stories and images that reflect and celebrate themselves in today's world.
My Project
It is time to update my class picture book library to include a bigger variety of cultures, ethnicities, colors and diversity so that my students can see more of themselves through the window of story books. My class motto is "Everyone is welcome in kindergarten", and I'd love some help building my class library to give my students a bigger opportunity to see what "everyone", not just some, look like. My book list has choices that celebrate skin tone, hair, names, clothes, gender fluidity, holidays and abilities with the intention of sharing love, kindness and understanding with my students as we build and grow their love of learning.
