Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my class, students traipse in the stories of wonderful people, who, by the might of their will, made great contributions to our society. Status and condition is a great obstacle my students face. Making the right choices in life has been challenging, but here they have a second chance.
Our ability to motivate the girls toward a positive, healthy future is a large factor in our success.
To this end, our program combines a positive peer culture, caring staff, and a quality education. The peer culture uses the power of positive peer influence to address behavioral problems. Because many of the students who come to us have experienced significant trauma, our treatment team is specially trained to address these issues within our safe, structured and nurturing environment.
My Project
Apple TV is a little black box that can work miracles in a classroom. The mirroring capabilities of the device will provide a virtual visual for text annotation. Students can participate in class activities and projects from their desk individually, or as a group. Even more importantly, an Apple TV paired with an iPad offers an opportunity for students to interact with the lesson collectively and share these interactions in real time with each other. The implications of this can be staggering. In a culture where team effort is highly encouraged, and simultaneous stimulus input by multiple users is promoted by all the major productivity platforms, MS Office, Google Drive, Dropbox, to name a few, Apple TV offers students the ability to learn to be successful, thus, arming them with the best experiences and skills before they enter the work force.
This device will also provide a space for me to create highly engaging lessons that captivate student attention.
More importantly, this tool will foster collaborative learning, sponsor creativity, and will cultivate a set of skills and talents that can help my students build their workplace skills and grow academically.
