In Reading class, we've been studying multiple genres of literature, ranging from contemporary teen-produced works to the classics. We have had a few opportunities to take these experiences beyond the classroom, but it is often difficult with our budget. I would really like to take a number of students to see the show "Wicked" as it has finally arrived in Chicago. To be eligible for this trip, students will have to show superior work ethic, increased study habits, and consistent work. We will prep for this trip by talking about crossing genres, in this case, taking a beloved classic like "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz" and giving it another spin, creating Wicked. We will read the original book and discuss creative ways that might explain how the characters came to be. Following the trip, students will work on their writing skills by submitting a review that discusses the positive and creative points of the production. I believe this would be a great way to reward the work that my students have done this year and give them an opportunity to see a first rate show. Your consideration and support are much appreciated.
