My Project

A new initiative I have learned about and saw in action during a summer professional program is the research behind "Building Thinking Classrooms". This involves vertical whiteboard spaces where students do all of the thinking and writing with whiteboard markers so they can easily take intellectual risks in math. It's much easier to erase a whiteboard marker mistake than a pencil (or pen!) and this makes learning math much easier. Students are more engaged if they are required to stand and be positioned so their work is visible to the rest of the class (no ability to hide!).

To make this project successful I need to create collaborative whiteboard stations throughout the borders of the classroom.

There are not currently whiteboards where students would work. Also, if students are using this medium to do their work daily, we will use many whiteboard markers and erasers. With the support of magnetic whiteboards around the room, magnetic erasers will be crucial to always having an eraser available.
